At Besser Company, we believe a happy, healthy team is of great importance to the overall success of the company. Just last week the Company concluded a one month wellness challenge to bring to focus just how important incorporating healthy habits into our everyday lives is. Eighty employees from around the globe voluntarily joined the program and were broken down into several teams. A leader was assigned to each team to keep track of everyone’s exercise minutes, water intake, and also healthy recipe submissions.
For extra fun, employees were asked to submit pictures of their wellness endeavours with the hashtag #BesserWellness throughout the entire four week journey. The challenge had excellent support from management who set a healthy example by exercising with customers, frequenting hotel gyms during travel, and taking the stairs instead of the elevator during conferences. Many employees teamed up for weekend wellness adventures of volleyball, biking, hiking, and swimming. Employees also incorporated their families into their daily challenges.
Regardless of location, team leaders used creative ways to motivate their teams each week to increase their exercise and drink more water. The result? 191,964 total wellness minutes accumulated in the month of August! The winning team totalled almost 30,000 minutes and received Fitbits for their success. The winners included Penny Noble (Sioux City, IA), Loren Steecker (Sioux City, IA), Ryan Suszek (Alpena, MI), Jamison Van’tHull (Sioux City), Wayne Gifford (Boone, IA), Austin Miller (Boone, IA), Therese Smiley (Boone, IA), Ricky Wood (Boone, IA), and Jerry Cowden (Redlands, CA). An overall winner was also determined to be Adam Szydlowski (Alpena, MI), who accumulated an impressive 5,835 wellness minutes. More than prizes though, participants had a great time encouraging each other and partnering with fellow employees in a new, fun way. Despite the challenge ending, the water bottles are still out on desks and lunchtime walks are still occurring. That is the biggest win of all!
