While in Brazil attending the Concrete Show earlier this year, Oriol Armadas, Besser Regional Sales Manager, was contacted by Eduardo D’Avila, President of the Brazilian Cement Portland Association. Mr. D’Avila explained to Oriol that the market in Rio de Janeiro is down approximately 20% which is spurring producers to investigate new, value added products to add to their product lines.
Eduardo mentioned that a group of association members from Rio de Janeiro would be attending a marble trade show in Italy during September and how they would greatly benefit from tours of progressive European concrete products producers. Oriol agreed and arranged tours of two progressive producers in Barcelona, Spain.
Eight block producers and the association president traveled to Besser-equipped facilities, Breinco Landscaping and Torho. While at each site the group spent time evaluating the concrete products involved in existing and emerging trends and saw the in-plant product enhancement technology that made their production possible. While at the plants they also toured the on-site research and development centers, spent time in outdoor customer display areas and had in-depth discussions with key plant staff members on topics ranging from production to marketing.
Networking throughout the industry is one of the keys to continued growth and success. We extend our thanks to the staffs at Breinco and Torho for graciously welcoming the Brazilian delegation and freely sharing their knowledge. The producers in Rio de Janeiro will be using this information to expand their product lines and improve their businesses going into 2015 and beyond.
