Concrete
Products Production Facilities
Besser concrete products production facilities are composed of
individual pieces of equipment that work together to function as a
complete system. In order for the entire system to operate smoothly each
piece must be working properly.
|
|
Equipment in a
concrete products production system performs the same functions in a
predetermined pattern. The entire system is affected when one piece
of machinery is not functioning properly. In order to find the
malfunction and troubleshoot the equipment effectively you must know
what the machine should do next. |
There are some basic guidelines to follow when troubleshooting
equipment. By addressing each of these items prior to contacting Besser
you will be armed with information to assist the technical service
representative in troubleshooting. The following list discusses what
should be done before contacting a technical service representative.
- Know how the equipment or process works. Pay close attention when
the equipment is operating properly. This will provide the knowledge
you need to determine what is not working properly. Attend training
courses, which will teach you how to read electrical blueprints
(schematics) and provide the background necessary to fully understand
the operation of equipment.
- Label starting points when making adjustments. Make only one
adjustment at a time. Watch what happens closely so the effects of the
adjustment can be seen and evaluated. If the equipment does what it
should, leave the adjustment alone. If it does not react in the
desired fashion, undo the adjustment.
- Remember – mechanical parts are designed for specific movement.
- If the equipment works with manual intervention there is most likely
an electrical problem. Get the blueprint (schematic) and review it.
Electrical troubleshooting begins with the desired function that is
not working properly and moves to the left following the wire numbers.
If you still need assistance after following these guidelines contact
your local Besser representative or the Besser technical service
specialists at 989.354.4111.
Thank you to Jerry Taylor at Mutual Materials’ Lakewood Plant in
Tacoma, Washington who allowed Besser to use his checklist as the basis
for this service tip.
