Basic Procedure for Installing Spherical Roller Bearings with Adapter Sleeve
on a Vibrator Shaft
- Place adapter sleeves
(less locknuts and lock washers) on the shaft in the positions indicated on
the drawing.
- Spray clear oil on the
outside of the sleeves for easy assembly.
- Install the bearings on
the sleeves and hand tighten.
- If necessary, position the
sleeve again.
- Lubricate the chamfered
face of the locknut.
- Screw in the locknut on
the sleeve with chamfered face to the bearing (without the lock washer).
- Using a feeler gage,
verify the clearance between the top roller and the outer race (NEVER
ROLL THE ROLLER OVER THE BLADE).
- Tighten the locknut to the
proper clearance (.0015").
- Remove the locknut then
position the lock washer in place with the tabs tilted away from the
bearing.
- Replace the locknut and
tighten it firmly against the washer.
- Locate the tab that is in
line with a slot on the locknut, the bend this tab into the slot. If there
are no tabs in line with a slot, tighten the nut until the nearest tab is in
line with a slot (NEVER LOOSEN THE LOCKNUT).
- Always use a spanner
(wrench), Besser Part Number 224995, specially adapted for the locknut.
Important:
Never tighten the locknut with a hammer and punch. This will
damage the locknut causing steel chips to drop into the bearing.
