 Besser Blockmakers Workshops Celebrate 50 Years

In 1954 innovator Jesse Besser launched Besser Company in yet another new direction by unveiling the blockmaking classes for plant personnel. These awarded winning courses have benefited more than 12,000 students from around the globe.

Today, the workshops are a joint partnership between the World Center for Concrete Technology, Alpena Community College and Besser Company. Courses are offered throughout the year on a wide variety of topics. These unique courses are a taught with a combination of classroom and hands-on learning. The hands-on portion of the courses are held in a state of the art laboratory and fully operational concrete products production facility featuring current model Besser equipment.

Students successfully completing five predetermined courses become Master Blockmakers. All Master Blockmakers have successfully completed five predetermined courses that prepare each individual in the efficient and effective production of quality concrete products. There are currently 129 industry professionals with the designation of Master Blockmaker.
